Welcome to the San Marcos High School Theater Department.

We pride ourselves in the structured training the actors get through the beginning and advanced acting classes provided terms one through four. These acting classes focus mainly on the naturalistic style of acting based on the Stanislavski Method. This style supports the understanding of many styles of theater and the work actors do in film. Our theater department’s operations are unique by covering all aspects of the theater by offering a separate stagecraft class devoted to learning the specific art of stage design, lighting, crew duties, and effects. We are unique from other schools by the way the Theater, Choir, and Band teachers collaborate on the spring musical, each taking on the role of director of their respective area for the performance (Theater Director, Music Director and Orchestra Conductor). What we are most proud of are the close and withstanding relationships the students make with one another and with the teachers. These relationships grow as their progressing work in the performing arts department gradually prepares themselves for a professional career in the arts. Our theater season consists of: a straight-play in the fall, a series of one acts and scenes in the winter, a musical in the spring, and a performing arts showcase at the end of the year which includes dancing, singing, instrumental music and comedic scenes. Please check our calendar to attend one of the performances our students are working on.
